Hofstede model: Colombia versus Russia

According to official data (https://www.hofstede-insights.com/product/compare-countries/) Colombia and Russia present the following scores for the Hofstede model which scores some characteristics of the different cultures.

Hofstede model score for Russia and Colombia

From the above scores we can see that Russia and Colombia have a very similar score from the UAI. This similarity is due to the fact that in both countries religion is very important, and they are also sites with traditionalist and conservative cultures.

On the other hand, there is a similarity in the PDI score. This is because social inequality is not seen as a serious problem in both countries, but rather as the result of people’s good or bad luck.

The opposite case can be seen in indicators such as LTO that are quite opposite in Colombia and Russia. Since Colombia’s low score indicates that we establish absolute truths. We are very traditionalist and rigid about modifying those traditions. We also love to get results quickly, we don’t like to wait for anything, and we don’t like to save. Russia, on the other hand, prefers to adapt its traditions to modernity and not the other way around. They have a thrifty mentality, and think that this can lead to great rewards.

This is also true of the IND score. In this we see that Colombia, by having a high score, is a country with optimistic people who like to enjoy life and have fun. An example of this behavior is us, the Costeños. In Russia, what we see is that people are pessimistic. These people also don’t invest much time in having fun because they think that doing so is wrong.
